I cannot say enough about this book except that it is well worth every penny, and will provide hours and hours of readability to readers of all types of fiction.

All this is less tricky than it sounds, only the lone "Zachary" chapter, told in Pacific Islander dialect (all "dingos'n'ravens", "brekker" and "f'llowin'"s) is an exercise in style too far. Breaking up the stories into interwoven episodes does result in a certain amount of scrabbling back to earlier chapters to remind oneself of how the story was left. Not sure if this is some technically but in any case if you're reading the title and expecting the 2004 1st edition then this is something else. In his extraordinary third novel, David Mitchell erases the boundaries of language, genre and time to offer a meditation on humanitys dangerous will to power, and where it may lead us. The book must be considered one of the best books written that cover various linear time plots.

The author presents us with a series of interconnected vignettes, which all sort of tie in loosely, though perhaps not positively enough to give a sense of satisfaction, and readers are left to draw their own conclusions about the meaning behind the birthmark.
