To me, the "bad" acting during the interview segments was actually pretty accurate to how people come off in those True Crime shows (which this is supposed to be in a "fauxumentory" sense). I've never heard of it until just now. Yep...some of the acting was pretty terrible and ruined much of the film's potential...maybe watching it with sound turned off would be better.... Great film. Hey i just re watched it and ive been dying to hear someone elses opinion on the matter. It is the first time I truly thought of the fact that some crazy bastard could just get into my house and decide to kill me. Marist grad here, don't expect it to be that accurate to the story/killer it was based on. I highly recommend it to all fans of found footage style horror. If you get what I mean after watching it, you'll also understand why. Don't get me wrong, I'm no prude, I can watch gore with the best of them. For some reason, the scene that stuck with me the most was the guy who was bitter that his dad's exoneration was overshadowed in the public eye by 9/11. One of the cool things about this movie is that it keeps to a "could be aired on TV" concept - there's no gore but it still manages to be disturbing as hell. The kind of horror that is a far cry from fiction when you read news stories of guys like Ariel Castro, Gary M. Heidnik and countless other instances of horrible abductions. Press J to jump to the feed. Sinister is modern and not found footage. Licensed and intended for widespread release in 2007, it would've been a contemporary of Paranormal Activity (2007) and Cloverfield (2008), but it was nothing like those movies. 1.5k. The dismemberment expert in particular was extra awful. For more than a decade /R/HORROR has been reddit.com's gateway to all things Horror: from movies & TV, to books & games. The part when the killer had that girl as a slave and you got to see her mom actually made me want to hug my mom and assure her that I was safe. That was the first story, in movie or prose, I saw that had such a clever use of 9/11's enormous cultural impact. It was so unpleasant...unless, of course you enjoy rape and demoralization. It's about the discovery of a serial killer's home movies. Omg right! I dont know if this is universal, but that movie disturbed me greatly and is pretty fucked up. Either you think it's awesome or you think it's shit. I mean what better way to say fuck you then to be in the documentary about yourself!!!! It scared the crap out of me. You never know. I've looked in legitimate markets, as well as online for torrents, and have never been able to find it! Was the first thing that came to mind when I read the title. Also a surprising amount of it didn't even take place in Poughkeepsie in the movie- having said that, still worth a watch probably.

Its a fine scary movie and I'd recommend watching it alone at dusk for the best effect, but don't go in expecting a classic. Members. I'll have to catch it again some time, it was pretty decent. R/HORROR, known as Dreadit by our subscribers is the premier horror entertainment community on Reddit. edit: nvm it's apparently gone from Youtube, sucks. I just watched it over the weekend too. You see, because both films have a found footage element in it and the fact that it is so belivable (in my opinion) in Sinister is what makes Sinister so dam creepy (same goes for Blair Witch Project ) But than again , the Poughkeepsie Tapes are real...** I'm interested to hear what your opinions are since it's such a weird and unnerving experience watching it. The Poughkeepsie Tapes is Found Footage in the style of an actual documentary, cutting between the serial killer's home videos and interviews with witnesses, expert testimony, and simulated newscasts. The acting is abysmal, the guy playing the killer is trying way too hard. Beyond being profoundly unnerving, it represents a divergent path that Found Footage could have taken. When she just stares at the camera I get chills down my spine. I thought it was okay upon watching it. Extremely sick people are out there and they can be next door to us; this is what the film so effective IMO.
